Settings reference
Every setting in the app, what it changes, and what we recommend.
Settings is organised into five tabs, matching the setup steps you went through. Changes save per tab — click Save before switching, or the app will remind you.
Everything here can be changed as often as you like. New settings apply to articles written from that point on; articles already published stay as they are.
Publishing
- Article publishing timefour 6-hour windows
- The window each day’s article is written and published in. The four options are fixed six-hour slots on a global clock (UTC), listed already converted to your store’s time zone — so they rarely land on tidy boundaries, and they shift by an hour when your region changes its clocks. Read the times as shown and pick the block just before your customers are typically online. Your time zone and current local time appear beneath the dropdown.
- Publishing strategypublish / draft
- Publish directly puts articles live the moment they’re written. Save as draft hides them in your Shopify blog until you publish them yourself. Start with drafts.
- Active scheduling days
- Which weekdays accept keywords. Only active days get articles. Three to five is a sustainable pace — see Content calendar.
- Week starts on
- Whether your content calendar begins the week on Sunday or Monday. Display only — it changes nothing about what gets published.
- Automatic Keyword Generationon by default
- Keeps 25 to 30 keywords queued in your content planner, researching and adding more as articles are written. Leave it on unless you want to choose every topic yourself; turning it off means publishing stops once your last scheduled keyword is used.
- Automatic Internal Links Selectionon by default
- Adds newly created store content to your internal link pool once a day, so articles can link to products and collections you launched after setup. You choose which types are included — products, collections, pages, articles.
Target Audience & Competitors
- Target Region190 regions
- The country you want to rank in. Keyword volumes and difficulty are measured for this market, so set it to where your customers actually are — not where you happen to be.
- Target Language156 languages
- The language articles are written in. Selling across several languages? Pick the one carrying most of your revenue; this is a single-language setting.
- Competitors3 to 7
- Other stores selling something similar. Rankira studies what they rank for and looks for gaps. Add genuine competitors, not the biggest name in your industry — you won’t out-rank Amazon, and aiming at it wastes the research.
- Target audiences3 to 7
- Who you sell to, in plain words. “First-time dog owners” works; “everyone” doesn’t. Each audience produces different keyword phrasing and shapes who articles speak to.
Getting more variety
If articles are starting to feel samey, add an audience you haven’t covered yet. It’s the fastest way to open up new angles on the same products.
Article Customization
Writing
- Article style12 tones
- The tone and voice articles are written in: Informative, Simple and Clear, Formal, Casual, Enthusiastic, Persuasive, Professional, Friendly, Entertaining, Inspirational, Analytical, or Narrative. Match it to how you already speak to customers.
- Internal Links0 to 5 per article
- How many links to your own products, collections, and pages each article gets. Two or three reads naturally. Five in a short article starts to feel like a sales pitch.
- Table of Contents
- Adds a jump-link list near the top. Worth having on longer articles — readers use it, and it can earn extra links in Google results.
- YouTube Video
- Embeds a relevant video. Keeps readers on the page longer, which search engines treat as a quality signal.
- Call-to-Action
- Adds a closing section pointing readers toward your products. Leave it on if the point of the article is selling.
- Mention Similar Products
- Allows articles to reference third-party products. Turn it off to keep everything strictly about your own catalogue.
Images
- Brand Color
- Used for the title text on featured images, and as a subtle accent elsewhere. Set it to your actual brand colour — it’s what makes generated images look like yours rather than stock.
- Image Style5 styles
- Realistic, Brand & Text, Illustration, Sketch, or Watercolor. Pick one and stay with it; a consistent look across your blog reads far more professional than variety.
- Title-Based Featured Image
- On, the featured image shows the article title in your brand colour, in your choice of Sketch, Watercolor, or Illustration. Off, you get a topic-based image with no text.
- Include Infographics
- Generates diagram-style visuals inside the article. Good for how-to and comparison content, unnecessary for short pieces.
- Simplified Images
- Cleaner images: one clear subject, minimal background, little or no text. Turn this on if generated images feel busy.
- Use Product Images
- When an article links to one of your products, that product’s own photo becomes the basis for the section illustration. Worth having on — real product photos beat generated ones every time.
Website & Blog
- Website URL
- Your store’s public address. Verified when you save. Use your custom domain, not the
.myshopify.comone — the backlink exchange requires a real domain. - Business description
- A short paragraph on what you sell and what makes you different. Every article is written against this, so it’s the single highest-leverage setting in the app. Rankira can draft it from your store; read it over and fix anything that isn’t true.
- Main blog
- Which Shopify blog receives articles. Create a new one from this screen if you want SEO content kept separate from announcements.
- Primary author
- The byline readers see. A real person’s name reads more trustworthy than a brand name. You can create a new author here.
If the writing feels generic, start here
A vague business description produces vague articles. Naming your actual specialities, materials, or service promises is usually a bigger improvement than any tone setting.
Google Search Console
- Connection
- Links your Google account so Rankira can read your search performance. Read-only — it can’t change anything in your Google account. Disconnect from the same screen at any time.
- Search Console property
- Which verified property to read. Choose the one matching your live store domain.
Connecting improves keyword research and fills the charts on Home. Setup instructions are in Keyword research.
Link Management
Not part of Settings, but configuration all the same. Two tabs:
- Internal Links
- The pool of your own pages, products, collections, and articles that Rankira may link to. Mark your best sellers as priority. Covered in Publishing to Shopify.
- External Backlinks
- The exchange toggle, your credit balance and history, and the backlinks you’ve earned. Covered in Backlink exchange.
