Troubleshooting

Fixes for the questions we get most, and how to reach a human.

Most of what looks like a problem turns out to be a setting or a timing question. Here are the ones we hear most, in rough order of frequency.

No articles are appearing

Work down this list — it’s almost always one of these:

  • Is today an active day? Check Settings › Publishing › Active scheduling days. If today’s weekday is off, nothing is written today.
  • Is there a keyword on today? Open Content Scheduler. An empty day produces no article. The calendar normally keeps itself stocked, so if it has run dry, check that Automatic Keyword Generation is on in Settings › Publishing — or add keywords yourself.
  • Has your publishing window passed yet? Articles are written inside the six-hour block you chose. Open Settings › Publishing and read the window as it’s displayed — the times are shown in your store’s time zone, and they often span odd hours rather than neat ones. If the window hasn’t started yet today, nothing has been written yet.
  • Are you looking in the right place? With Save as draft on, articles land as hidden drafts. Check Content History rather than your public blog.
  • Is your subscription active? An expired trial or a failed payment pauses generation. Shopify will have emailed you.

The articles don’t sound like my brand

Three settings do most of the work here:

  • Business description (Settings › Website & Blog) — the biggest lever by far. A vague description produces vague writing. Name your actual specialities, materials, and promises.
  • Article style (Settings › Article Customization) — twelve tones. If articles feel stiff, try Friendly or Casual; if they feel thin, try Informative or Analytical.
  • Target audiences — writing aimed at “everyone” sounds like it. Be specific.

For a single article that’s nearly right, the AI Rewriter fixes one section at a time — see Articles & editor.

I’m publishing but seeing no traffic

Usually normal, occasionally fixable. New articles take days to weeks to be indexed, and months to rank — two to three months of consistent publishing before meaningful click growth is the typical pattern.

Things genuinely worth checking:

  • Is Search Console connected? Without it you can’t see impressions at all, which feels like zero traffic even when it isn’t.
  • Are you watching impressions or clicks? Impressions move first. Rising impressions mean it’s working, even with clicks flat.
  • Are your keywords too competitive? High-volume, high-difficulty terms can take a year. Specific, low-difficulty keywords rank far sooner.
  • Is the backlink exchange on? Off-page signals matter for ranking, and the exchange is free with your plan.

Google Search Console won’t connect

  • Popup blocked? The connection opens a Google sign-in window. Allow popups for your Shopify admin and try again.
  • No properties listed? You signed in with a Google account that doesn’t own the property. Sign in with the account that verified your site.
  • Property missing? Verify your store domain in Search Console first, then reconnect.
  • Wrong property? Choose your live custom domain, not the .myshopify.com address.

“Not enough data yet” on the dashboard

Expected early on. The Home charts need Search Console data, and Google collects it slowly:

  • Search Console needs a couple of days after connecting.
  • New articles need to be indexed before they register at all.
  • Low-traffic stores may see nothing for a week or two. It isn’t an error.

Every store in the network passes an automated content check. Yours didn’t — most often a false positive triggered by an unusual product catalogue.

Click Request a review on that banner and a person will look at it. Everything else in Rankira keeps working normally meanwhile.

  • Check your link pool. Link Management › Internal Links is the only set of pages Rankira can link to. Remove anything you don’t want linked.
  • Mark priorities. Flag your best sellers so they’re chosen first.
  • Check it’s keeping itself current. Automatic Internal Links Selection (Settings › Publishing) adds new store content to the pool daily. If it’s off, add new collections as you launch them.
  • Too many links? Lower the count in Settings › Article Customization › Internal Links.

The images aren’t right

  • Too busy? Turn on Simplified Images for one clear subject and a plain background.
  • Off-brand colours? Set your Brand Color to your real brand colour.
  • Want real products shown? Turn on Use Product Images so linked products supply the illustration.
  • Prefer no title text? Turn off Title-Based Featured Image.
  • One bad image? Replace it directly in the editor — your own photos are always an option.

Keyword generation seems stuck

Research runs in the background and takes a few minutes — longer for large batches. You can safely leave the screen and come back.

If nothing has appeared after fifteen minutes, refresh the page. Still nothing? Check that you have free days on the calendar — with no open days, there’s nowhere for new keywords to go.

Two articles cover the same topic

It happens when similar keywords land in the same batch. Delete one from Content History (it archives, so nothing is lost), and review future keyword batches on the calendar before their dates arrive — deleting a near-duplicate keyword takes seconds, deleting a written article wastes a publishing day.

Still stuck?

What to include

Your store domain, what you expected, what happened instead, and a screenshot if you have one. It usually saves a full round trip.
